Wanted to share something new. The majority of online DJ's in IMVU and Second Life are streaming audio-only content. Nothing wrong with that at all. It's easier, takes less time to set up and plan sets, and is good for majority of what we do. I do however have to tell you about a DJ that I was unaware of that I kind of stumbled on and saw in IMVU by the name of DJ Spotter (Shawn Potter) who runs High Energy Beats (HEB). He is a video-streaming DJ, and I was invited to go to his HEB Stratus Club room in IMVU for his 2 hour set. ....and I have to say I was completely blown-away by what he did. DJ Spotter is a real life professional and has been video streaming for years. It was incredible! That got my taste-buds wet for wanting to do it too as well, so I messed around with trying to put a set together, and then I tried to do a live stream too one night for 45 minutes. The end result is below:
To do this I live-stream to a service and platform called Mixcloud, which does not censor content is fully licensed to allow most music to play on DJ videos. People can tune into my live Mixcloud page/link in the same way they can tune into my Caster or Zeno radio pages. For phone or iPad users, they can download the Mixcloud app and search for my live stream.
However, the catch is that Mixcloud does not store the recorded videos on your page, and you have to post them elsewhere, such as YouTube or Twitch (as in the example above).
The final thing about video-streaming is that it is nowhere is simple or easy as just being an audio DJ. It does take a lot of time and prep to create video content to go along with your music set, so I don't see this as an alternative or an "upgrade from" audio DJ'ing, ....but I do see this as an alternative to add-on to what we all do as DJ's, ....where we can do our normal thing with audio, and then use a video stream for sets when it is convenient, when the time and place is right, and when the event calls for it, and when we have the available time and prep to do it.
